MBA/BBA Class Gift Self-Directed Summer Internship Support

The Nonprofit and Public Management Center provides internship support for students pursuing degrees an the Stephen M. Ross School of Business. Generously donated by the Ross School of Business Class of 2008, this fund supports students serving in summer internships in nonprofit and public management positions.

How the Program Works

NPM solicits applications in the winter semester. Selected students must have:

  • A record of academic and professional excellence;
  • Knowledge and skills relevant to their selected organization;
  • A desire to extend themselves beyond their previous experience through their internships;
  • A commitment to the nonprofit sector.

In addition, internships must be at least 10 weeks in length and only internships served prior to your graduation from U-M are eligible. Accepted MBA students are awarded up to $10,000 each and BBA students are awarded up to $8,000 each to defray costs associated with their internships, including those with a limited stipend and with organizations anywhere in the U.S. or abroad.

How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in MBA/BBA Class Gift Self-Directed Summer Internship Support. We are no longer accepting applications for 2009 summer internship support. Applications for 2010 summer internship support will be available in January or February of 2010. The application package may include:

  • Up-to-date resume

Please note that only Ross School of Business MBA and BBA students are eligible to apply. Applicants will be notified by late February as to whether they have been accepted.

Internship Support Awardees for 2009

The Nonprofit and Public Management Center and the MBA/BBA 2008 Class Gift Committee is pleased to support the following students who will be serving internships in nonprofit and public organizations during the summer of 2009.

Preetesh Bengali, an MBA student, will intern with Habitat for Humanity - Greater San Francisco.  Preetesh will be spearheading the development of HHGSF's new organizational strategy by benchmarking HHGSF against other community-focused nonprofit organizations across the country in a variety of areas. This will include quantifying the effective use of the organization's budget and resources, volunteers, current marketing/fundraising campaigns, and individual donors.

Kelly McKenzie, an MBA/MSW student, will intern with Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit.  Kelly will work with the Vice President of Business Development & Commercial Operations, with a focus on acquiring and developing new social enterprises operated by Goodwill. Her work will entail evaluating potential acquisition targets and assessing each target's fit with Goodwill's mission and training needs.

Laura Sonday, a BBA student, will intern with Michigan State University Extension (MSUE)-Food System Economic Partnership.  Laura will be providing strategic planning, market analysis, and consulting to socially-oriented clients in the food industry, including nonprofit and for-profit organizations.
